Chicas Poderosas is  a nonprofit that aims to empower underrepresented women in media through technology.

It has three main areas of action:

An accelerator for women-led independent news organizations in Brazil and leadership in news media.

The investigative reporting program, with specialized curriculum in digital media tools for journalists, working with the latest methodologies to work effectively in investigative journalism promoting the collaborative team work.

Both these programs serve our most important asset: the COMMUNITY. Formed by journalists, designers, ilustrators, lawyers, etc across 16 countries. (Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Venezuela, Peru and Nicaragua, USA (Miami and NYC) and Portugal), promoting the diversity in the workforce.

  • Team check in sessions with NVL manager 1 hour per week, there are the minimum requirements
  • Team live-stream educational sessions 2 hours per week (each session is 1 hour held 2 times each week)
  • Team mentor sessions 1 hour per week (each team is assigned a professional mentor directly related to their business objectives)

NVL Brazil spring cohort-will begin 29 January 2018 and end 25 May 2018. While much of the program is virtual, the spring cohort will meet in-person three times during the 17-weeks. All team members are required to attend all virtual and in-person meetings.

Step 2 will include an application process to choose the first cohort of teams to participate in the 17-week NVL accelerator. Each team must have at least 2 team members to participate and must be led by a woman. For the first cohort we will choose 6-8 teams.

The New Ventures Lab-Brazil will kick off with three-design sprint weekends located in São Paulo, Manaus and Recife. Selection for the weekends is via an application process. The design sprint weekends are an opportunity for you to learn how to apply human centered design to your project and for you to learn about our process and expectations during the 17-week accelerator program. The design sprint weekends will be led by IDEO master trainers.
